The reputation of Gyula sausages, its tradition and the skill with which it is manufactured, has passed long ago the borders of our country and came to be known almost all over the world. Bekes county tradition in the livestock and meat processing boasts with a history of more than two centuries since the medieval times, the town of Gyula being an important trading post. Annual fairs were organized several times a year, which in addition to merchants in the area and those in neighboring towns and villages, brought also international merchants from major European cities such as: Nuremberg, Munich, Dresden and Vienna.
Livestock in large numbers inevitably laid the foundation for a flourishing meat processing industry. The town opened its first slaughterhouse and meat processing factory which today is a Museum, in 1868, which also opened the doors to a renowned history in this area. Over the years several meat products have been awarded at prestigious national and international competitions and the brand, trademarks of Gyula meat and meat products became known also abroad.

 

 

The fruit schnapps called aqua vitae in Latin language, meaning water of life, this matchless spirit called Hungarian brandy. Fruit and fruit trees - besides agriculture which is so important in this part of Hungary - has played an important role during the prewar area of Bekes County. Every year, carts full of raw quality material journeyed in nearby towns and abroad but some of them were used in manufacturing local fruit schnapps; already a tradition stated also by the first schnapps manufactory which was founded by Baron Harruckern Janos Gyorgy in the year 1731. Since then, locals boil this magic potion of unmistakable taste, using various local fruits, not just plums.


Pralines and chocolates are considered specialties and are surrounded by a spell and special attraction since their creation takes much finesse, elected palate and not least, a lot of fantasy. The best chocolates - like wines - are the result of hard work and unyielding tastes; the taste of chocolate it’s unique and unmistakable.


Confectionery is a special candy-shop and manufactory where chocolates bonbons are created and manufactured manually since 1998. CADEU chocolate bonbons and pralines are indigenously ornate meanwhile available in more than 80 different shapes and flavors. These sweets are unique not only because of their composition and raw materials used but also thanks to their unprecedented forms. The palette is based on the school of classical international cuisine and rather the modern French, Belgian and Italian chocolate, but using local recipes of the Hungarian Bekes area.
