Traffic restrictions during the Gyula Grand Start of the Tour de Hongrie
In connection with the events taking place in Gyula during the 47th Tour de Hongrie, temporary traffic restrictions will be introduced on 12 and 13 May 2026 in the start area, as well as along the race route. The map below shows in detail which sections will be affected and exactly when parking bans or road closures should be expected.

The restrictions mainly affect the area around the Gyula Castle, the start zone, and the designated race route. We ask road users in the affected period to inform themselves before setting off and, if possible, to approach the locations on foot or by bicycle.
The map shows separate markings for:
- traffic restrictions in the start area,
- restrictions along the race route,
- and the slow start section.
Interesting facts about the route of the 47th Tour de Hongrie:
Over the total distance of 836 kilometres, riders must overcome nearly 5,500 metres of elevation gain. The first three stages of the five-day race favour sprinters. The fourth stage is the queen stage of the race and the only mountain finish on the route. The hilly fifth stage, with rolling terrain, significant elevation gain, and a flat finish, promises an unpredictable finale. The route passes through 70 settlements and 7 counties: Békés, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Bács-Kiskun, Tolna, Somogy, Baranya, and Veszprém. Riders can collect points and bonus seconds at 15 intermediate sprints. The first three riders across each sprint line receive 3, 2, and 1 second time bonuses. The route includes 12 categorised climbs. The only first-category climb will be the finish in Pécs. The climbs at Bárány út and Tótvázsony–Gella are second category, while Tengelic–Szőlőhegy, Gödre, Zobákpuszta, and Szentkirályszabadja are classified as third category.
The 2026 Tour de Hongrie begins in the “Viharsarok” region (south-eastern Hungary). From Gyula, the caravan heads toward Kétegyháza and then Békéscsaba, before returning to the Grand Start location via Doboz. After 2.5 laps, the peloton will finish in Békéscsaba. The 143-km stage is completely flat. Wind could make the stage chaotic, but it will likely be the sprinters battling for the first yellow jersey of this year’s Tour de Hongrie. For the first time, Gyula will host either a stage start or finish of the Tour de Hongrie. One of the best-known attractions of the historic spa town and holiday resort, the Gyula Castle, will provide a picturesque backdrop not only for the start but also for the team presentation on May 12. In the birthplace of last year’s winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, László Krasznahorkai, two intermediate sprints will also take place.
